Efficient & Humane Raccoon Removal in the Greater Charleston Area

Raccoons are intelligent, strong, and surprisingly destructive. Once one finds your attic, it comes back with the family. Monster Wildlife traps and relocates raccoons humanely, seals every entry point they used, and cleans up the contamination they left behind. One call covers trapping, exclusion, and cleanup, all under the same warranty.

Warning signs you have raccoons
!Heavy thumping sounds at night (raccoons are nocturnal and much heavier than squirrels)
!Torn soffit boards, ripped fascia, or pried-open vents at your roofline
!Clumped, foul-smelling insulation visible through attic access
!Raccoon droppings (resembling dog feces) concentrated in latrine areas
!Urine stains on ceilings or drywall, a late-stage sign of serious infestation
!A strong ammonia odor in the attic, especially in warm weather
The Lowcountry raccoon problem

Why Charleston raccoons are especially bold

Raccoons in the Charleston Lowcountry have learned to thrive alongside dense human settlement. The combination of mild winters, abundant food sources (unsecured garbage, compost, pet food left outside, and even bird feeders), and the proximity of maritime forests means that Lowcountry raccoons are year-round residents. Unlike their northern counterparts, they don't pull back much in winter.

Older housing stock throughout Charleston is especially vulnerable. Historic homes on the peninsula and in older neighborhoods in North Charleston, West Ashley, and James Island often have aging soffits, deteriorated gable vents, and decades-old fascia boards that provide minimal resistance to a determined raccoon. Even newer construction can be vulnerable, since raccoons readily exploit any gap at the roofline larger than roughly 4 inches.

The raccoon's preference for high, warm, enclosed spaces makes attics their ideal denning site, especially for females seeking a safe place to raise their spring kits. By the time homeowners realize they have a raccoon in the attic, there is often an entire family present, along with weeks or months of accumulated feces and urine contamination.

Health risks

Three diseases you need to know about

Raccoon Roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis)
The eggs of this parasite are shed in raccoon feces and can survive for years in soil and insulation. Accidental ingestion, including from handling contaminated materials without washing hands, can cause severe neurological damage. Children are at highest risk.
Rabies
Raccoons are the most common rabies vector in the eastern US. Any direct contact with a raccoon, especially a disoriented or aggressive one active during the day, should be treated as a potential exposure. Never approach a raccoon acting unusually.
Leptospirosis
This bacterial infection is spread through raccoon urine and contaminated water. Symptoms resemble flu; severe cases can cause kidney and liver failure. Exposure risk is significant when handling raccoon-contaminated insulation without proper PPE.
Our process

How we remove raccoons for good.

01
Full Inspection
We inspect the attic, crawlspace, and every inch of the roofline. We document all entry points, evidence of occupation, and structural damage.
02
Trap & Relocate
Live cage traps are placed at active entry points and monitored daily. Raccoons, including kits, are relocated humanely to suitable habitat well away from your home.
03
Seal Every Entry
After all raccoons are out, we seal every opening with heavy-gauge hardware cloth, copper mesh, or matched materials. One missed gap undoes everything. We don't miss gaps.
04
Cleanup & Sanitize
Contaminated insulation pulled and bagged, all feces and nesting material removed, attic treated with enzyme disinfectant, and the space fogged to eliminate odors and scent markers.
Common questions

Raccoon removal: your questions answered.

Raccoons are powerful animals that can tear open soffits, pull back fascia boards, pry off deteriorated gable vents, and exploit any gap at the roofline that is larger than their head. They are especially drawn to homes with accessible attic vents, overhanging tree limbs, and flat roof sections they can walk on.
Raccoons cause serious damage. They shred and compress insulation (eliminating its R-value), create latrine areas with concentrated feces and urine, damage HVAC ducts, chew electrical wiring (a fire risk), and cause structural damage at entry points. A single raccoon family can render an attic uninhabitable in a matter of weeks.
Yes. Raccoons are the primary carrier of rabies in the eastern United States. They also carry raccoon roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis), whose eggs survive in dried feces and are a serious neurological hazard, particularly to children. Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection spread through raccoon urine, is a third concern. Never handle a raccoon or its waste without professional protective equipment.
SC law requires permits for relocating wildlife, and raccoons can be dangerous to handle. Beyond the legal issues, DIY trapping without proper exclusion work almost always results in new raccoons moving in within weeks. We handle trapping, relocation, full exclusion, and cleanup under one warranty. That's the only approach that actually solves the problem long term.
After removal, we seal every entry point using hardware cloth, copper mesh, or matched trim. We also identify structural vulnerabilities like overhanging limbs, unsecured garbage, and pet food access that attract raccoons in the first place. Every exclusion is backed by our 3-year warranty: if a raccoon gets back in through a seal we installed during the warranty period, we redo it at no charge.
