Wildlife Removal on Kiawah Island, SC

Kiawah Island sits within one of the most biodiverse coastal ecosystems in South Carolina. That's part of what makes it beautiful, and it's why wildlife activity is a fact of life for homeowners and rental property owners on the island. Raccoons are bold here and learn quickly which homes are accessible. Monster Wildlife handles removal and exclusion for residential and vacation rental properties throughout Kiawah.

About Kiawah Island

Kiawah is a private barrier island about 21 miles southwest of Charleston, accessible via Johns Island. The island's 10,000 acres include a mix of primary residences and vacation properties set within maritime forest, ocean beach, and an extensive lagoon system.

The island's wildlife management program handles alligators and some nuisance wildlife in common areas, but private property wildlife calls (raccoons in attics, snakes in garages, birds in vents) are outside that scope. That's where we come in.

Common wildlife calls on Kiawah

Raccoons top the list. The island's raccoon population is accustomed to human presence and moves freely between wooded areas and residential properties. Vacation homes are particularly attractive because food sources are inconsistent and entry points often go undetected for extended periods between guests.

Snakes are the second most common call. Kiawah's lagoon edges, marsh borders, and wooded lots create habitat for both cottonmouth water moccasins and nonvenomous species. A snake in a garage, on a porch, or near an entry can usually be removed the same day when we're able to schedule it.

Common questions

Kiawah Island wildlife removal: questions answered.

Kiawah's barrier island environment supports a wide range of wildlife. Raccoons are the most frequent call. They're bold on the island and will enter vacation homes and screened porches with very little hesitation. Opossums den under decks and in crawlspaces. Snakes, including cottonmouths near the lagoons and marsh edges, are present all year. Birds, including woodpeckers, occasionally cause structural damage. Bobcats live on the island but rarely create problems in structures.
Kiawah's lagoon system has a large resident alligator population. Alligators are protected under state and federal law and are managed by SC Department of Natural Resources, not private wildlife removal companies. If an alligator is behaving aggressively or is in an unsafe location, contact the Kiawah Island Town Hall or SC DNR directly. We do not handle alligators.
Yes. We serve Kiawah Island regularly and can often respond within 24 to 48 hours for active problems between guest stays. For rental property owners dealing with recurring raccoon or wildlife issues, exclusion work done once, sealing every point of entry, costs far less than repeated callouts. Call us to talk through what's happening and we'll give you an honest assessment.
Yes. Raccoons in particular will tear through screen panels to access food or denning spots. We remove the animal and assess how it got in, whether that's a damaged screen, a gap at the foundation, or easy access from overhanging trees. We can refer you to a screen repair contractor if structural repairs are needed beyond our scope.
